October 14, 1952

I am getting more and more excited as the weekend draws near. Bev and Lola are going to help me move my belongings. I bought a new record to commemorate the occasion. I went to the record store after work and  bought Fats Domino's Goin' Home. Most of my friends make fun of me for listening to "colored" music. But, to me music reaches far beyond race. The popular music they play on the radio is soulless. This music reaches inside and moves me.  I'm glad Bev and Lola understand my tastes. That's what real friends are for!

Tomorrow is the day, Diary. Tomorrow will change my life. My first apartment. My first step toward the rest of my life. I will be leaving the gruesome past where it belongs. Tomorrow is my future.
